If the time has come to sell your baby away, be sure to use the best online resources where prospective buyers will be looking. There are several options for selling a website, from auctions, to one-time sales and even private dealings. Here’s a list!

Where to Sell Your Website for a Flat Fee

  • Flippa.com is a quick and simple way to buy or sell a website. For a flat fee of $19, you can list a website for sale. You’ll be charged a “success fee” which is a percentage that is calculated (the fee never goes below $5 or above $498).
  • WebsiteBroker.com $9.95 gives you a 90-day listing of your website for sale. It’s free for buyers to browse the site and contact sellers. There are no additional fees for successful deals.
  • iOffer.com has an internet & business section where you can sell your domain & website. It’s completely free to use – iOffer prides itself on going up against eBay for never charging buyers or sellers a fee for anything.

Where to Sell Your Website through a Negotiation Process

  • SEDO.com, perhaps the biggest name in premium world-wide domain name auctions, has its own website sales section. It’s free to list a site, but you’ll have to meet certain quality measures.
  • DigitalPoint Forums has a massive community of internet marketers with its own sub-forum strictly for selling a website. This is a big community of entrepreneurs, and it would be worth your while to give it a try.
  • NamePros.com is a domain name broker that has a very active forum where you can sell your website. This is a forum, and you’ll have to up-sell the value of your website. Offers are not moderated as they would be on an auction site, and all deals are negotiated.
  • DNforum.com is another very active forum where domainers go to buy and sell websites and domain names.

Where to Sell Your Website through an Auction

  • eBay.com is certainly an option. Be sure to list it through the “Businesses & Websites” category. Not too many people have luck selling their site this way – be sure to set a reserve price so that you’re not obligated to sell it if the final auction isn’t as high as you had hoped.

There are your options! Good luck in selling your website. Check out my domain name appraisal guide if you’re stumped over what your domain name is worth – it will definitely give you a great deal of insight into how you should price your domain name and website. Remember, domain names that actually have an active website (especially one that is bringing in a monthly income, with proof) are always worth more.

Be descriptive when you sell a website: you’ll want to display your Google Analytics information, including total daily visits, unique daily visits, daily or monthly page views, bounce rate, search engine result positions for major keyword terms, monthly income and anything else that will attract buyers. Look through other similar auctions to see what other people are selling their sites for – it will let you know what would be considered “fair,” and what would be considered “irrational” to set for a price. Set your price a little higher than expected if you’re going to negotiate, and set an absolute lowest limit you’ll accept as a final offer.
